IDM and Ministry of Social Affairs Launch the “Internet for All” Initiative

Beirut, June 10, 2025:IDM, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, launched the“Internet for All” initiative that aims to provide low-cost internet servicesfor persons with disabilities.

On this occasion, a ceremony was held at the Ministry of Social Affairs inBeirut on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, under the patronage and in the presence ofH.E. Mrs. Haneen El Sayed, Minister of Social Affairs, Mr. Maroun Chammas, IDMChairman, and Mrs. Rana Zakhour, General Manager of IDM, along with seniorofficials from the Ministry and team members and representatives from IDM. Theevent was also attended by civil society organizations, social figures, and acrowd of journalists and media representatives in Lebanon.

H.E. Mrs. Haneen El Sayed, Minister of Social Affairs, delivered a speech inwhich she emphasized the Ministry’s renewed rights-based vision for personswith disabilities. The Ministry has shifted its focus from traditional welfareapproaches toward empowering individuals and ensuring their full participationand autonomy. Key actions include re-electing the National Commission forPersons with Disabilities, expanding cash support programs benefiting over20,000 individuals, enhancing access to healthcare services, and ensuringpolitical participation. The Minister stressed the critical role of digitalinclusion, describing it as a fundamental requirement for social justice andequal opportunity. She concluded her remarks by thanking IDM for this importantinitiative and reaffirming the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to building a morejust, fair, and inclusive Lebanon for all.

Mr. Maroun Chammas, IDM Chairman, delivered a speech in which he reaffirmedthe company’s strong and ongoing commitment to delivering fast, legal, andcompetitively priced internet access to all citizens. He noted that “sinceIDM’s early beginnings in the 1990s, ensuring universal access to the internethas been central to its mission and vision.”

Chammas stated that “persons with disabilities play an active role inbuilding the country, regardless of the challenges they face. Their full accessto the internet is a national duty, especially in this era of artificialintelligence and technology that helps individuals overcome obstacles.” Headded that “no government can provide effective services without fast andaccessible internet for all.”

He further emphasized that high-speed fiber-optic internet is not just forpersons with disabilities but for every Lebanese citizen.He concluded by stressing that “expanding this service cannot happen withoutthe full implementation of the fiber-optic network, especially in areas thatstill lack this essential infrastructure.” Chammas reaffirmed IDM’s commitmentto this initiative as a step toward a more inclusive and equitable society.

The new “Internet for All” service is a pioneering step in Lebanon, standingout as one of the most important initiatives aimed at providing internet accessfor persons with disabilities. The service includes multiple options tailoredto users’ needs. Subscribers will receive the first month free, full activationand installation at no extra cost, a free wireless modem, 24/7 specializedtechnical support, and discounted subscription packages.

This offer is available to persons with disabilities who can submit asubscription request accompanied by a copy of a valid disability card issued bythe Ministry of Social Affairs. The offer is valid until the end of 2025. IDMwill also collaborate with the Ministry to organize joint awareness campaignsto inform individuals about all the initiative’s details and how to benefitfrom it.
