RDCL Holds Exclusive Roundtable with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert

The Lebanese Business Leaders Association (RDCL) held an exceptional roundtable discussion with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Mrs. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, in the presence of RDCL members. The meeting featured a direct and candid dialogue between Mrs. Hennis-Plasschaert, RDCL President Mrs. Joumana Saddi Chaya, and participating members, focusing on Lebanon’s position amid the current regional transformations and on the role of the legal private sector in safeguarding the foundations of stability and recovery.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Chaya stressed that Lebanon today stands at a delicate crossroads between further decline and a genuine opportunity to restore security, stability, and recovery. She emphasized that the legal private sector, despite the financial collapse, the absence of a functioning banking system, and the repercussions of successive wars, continues to produce, export, employ, and absorb exceptional levels of risk. She stated: “No recovery is possible without the Lebanese legal private sector.”

During the open discussion, RDCL members addressed the risk of Lebanon’s regional marginalization should it fail to regain the initiative, the urgent need to rebuild trust with the international community, and the necessity of articulating a clear vision for reform and reconstruction. Members further emphasized the pivotal role played by the legal private sector as one of the country’s essential unifying pillars — capable of consolidating consensus around reform, strengthening Lebanese national identity, and restoring confidence both domestically and internationally, thereby reinforcing Lebanon’s economic standing and its historical role as a platform of openness, dialogue, and moderation in the region, while reaffirming RDCL’s role as a responsible space bringing together Lebanese economic leaders around the country’s major national economic priorities.
